Department Chair Position Announcement

The KCAI Graphic Design Department is a three-year studio program which currently consists of four energetic and highly qualified full-time faculty members and approximately 70 students. The NASAD-approved curriculum offers unique courses that focus upon audience research, integrating interactive media into all studio levels, the role of design in social advocacy and a strong foundation of form making including a four semester typography sequence. We are seeking a visionary team member to contribute to a well-established foundation of ideas and our vigorous approach to the future of design education.

Dept chair requirements

In addition to the aforementioned basic requirements, the department chair should be a strong mentor to full-time faculty, supporting tenure activities, teaching methods and classroom needs. The chair’s stellar reputation and activities in both the educational and professional communities of graphic design should serve recruiting efforts and external networking, drawing students, design professionals, guest lecturers and excellent faculty to KCAI. The chair should also have the ability to work effectively with school administration for the department’s advancement regarding budgeting, equipment and faculty needs. We seek a candidate with a multi-disciplinary vision of future developments in graphic design education, professional practice and technology. The candidate should also play an integral role in sharing and refining the faculty’s existing curricular and departmental vision.
